Alan Daniel Hoppe, born in 1946, to Florence and Daniel Hoppe, left this world and his loved ones, unexpectedly, on Wednesday morning, January 20, 2016, having passed in his sleep.
He was the beloved, faithful and caring husband of Deborah Jane for 43 years. He was the proud, loving and supportive uncle, godfather and "father figure" to Joshua Thomas; devoted godfather to Jessica Kinkel; "surrogate grandfather" to Canarian Russell and fond brother to Leslie Hoppe, OFM. He was the best "dog daddy in the world" to his "little girls", Honey Bunny and Duchess Elizabeth (dec). He will be missed by many friends and relatives.
He was a proud and loyal Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, Tonti Council #1567, serving as Grand Knight 1995-1996. He was also a member of La Salle Assembly #0189. Alan was a member and also one of the founders of the Holy Spirit Degree Team with Joe Nalepa and Jack O' Brien in 1976. Alan received the Master's Medallion in 1992, State Medallion in 1995 and Columbian Booster Award in 2001. He is a member of St. Rosalie Church in Harwood Heights, having served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and religious education teacher in this parish and several others, for over 35 years. He loved to travel and he and Debbie shared many happy days in Door County, Wisconsin. Plans are pending for a memorial bench in his name in Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, Door County, WI.
Visitation will be Monday, January 25 from 3 - 9 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home, 4800 N. Austin Ave., Chicago. Funeral prayers Tuesday 9:15 AM at the funeral home with a procession to St. Rosalie Church for Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 AM. Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery.
