Charles J. Schneider, 81, of Chicago, IL.  Loving husband and best friend of 58 years to Janice (Corbin) Schneider.  Devoted father of Ann Schneider, Mary (Nate) Hobaugh, Patty (Todd) Birkeland and Elizabeth (Jean) Fils.  Loving grandpa of Andrew Hobaugh, Allison Hobaugh, Scott Birkeland, Maddie Hobaugh, Amanda Birkeland and Elliott Hobaugh.  Devoted son to the late Carl and Eleanor Schneider and brother to Tom Schneider, the late Bob Schneider as well as brother-in law to Dorothy (Jim) Gallagher.  Dedicated uncle to Katie (Eugene) Byrne, Eileen (Dan) Kirk and Ellen (Jim) Roberts.  Dear cousin and lifelong friend too many.

Charlie was a proud Navy Veteran, an avid Chicago sports fan, a devout Catholic and a loving family man who will be missed by many.  His favorite things included a good diner breakfast, an excellent book, talk TV and radio with emphasis on politics and great conversations.

Charlie was self-employed for over 40 years and worked hard to provide for his family.  He was married to his wife, Jan, for over 58 years.  They were best friends up to the end.  He was an original Girl Dad and made sure every one of his four daughters knew how to anything a boy could do.  He made sure we knew we could do or be whatever we wanted in this world.

We were all lucky to have such a great husband, dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend in our life.  Whether you knew him as Charlie or Chuck, you knew he had your back and he was someone everyone liked be around.  We will miss him dearly and are betting all the angels in heaven are having a great time since he entered the pearly gates.

Services were private at Maryhill Cemetery.   A memorial service is planned for a future date.  The family has asked that any donations be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in his memory ( www.mercyhome.org ).
