Darlene A. Kopke (Dartz) was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 27, 1941 and passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 31, 2026 at the age of 84. Darlene, “Miss Kopke,” was a proud and dedicated teacher for 30 years in Schiller Park, Illinois.

Darlene was a life-long member of Norwood Gospel Chapel, and now Northwest Bible Chapel, in Chicago. She was director of the children’s Vacation Bible School for many years at Norwood. She looked forward to the church’s annual summer camp week in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. There she enjoyed connecting with friends, chapel services, and sitting on the porch that had the best view of the lake.

She loved anything chocolate. She was an excellent vocalist and was often invited to sing in various churches in the Chicago area. A big fan of both the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks, she seldom missed watching or listening to the games. Her generous heart and love of life will be missed by her friends and family.

Darlene was the loving daughter of the late Arthur John and the late Barbara Pauline (nee Mall) Kopke; dearest sister of the late Lois B. (the late Richard) Nelsen; beloved aunt of Craig (Gayle) Nelsen, Scott (Sharon) Nelsen, Kurt (Pamela) Nelsen, and Richard Jr. (Raquel) Nelsen; great-aunt of Eric (Jenna), Brent (Emily), Tyler (Kristen), Ethan, Zachary (Jordan), Mackenzie, Julia (Preston), Jenna, and Joelle; and great-great aunt of nine.

Lying in state, Friday, February 13, 2026 at Northwest Bible Chapel 5555 N. Lotus Ave., Chicago, IL 60630 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago, IL.
