IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George "Bud"
Laycock
October 7, 1924 – May 29, 2022
George "Bud" Laycock, 97, of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully the 29 th of May, 2022. After graduating from Farragut High school, he signed up for the draft and joined the US Army Air Corp in 1943 where he became a flight officer, serving with troop carrier squadrons such as the 13 th – the Thirsty 13 th . He was honorably discharged as a second lieutenant in 1947. After returning home he did a few different things before joining the carpenter's union, the profession that served him well through the rest of his working days and beyond.
He enjoyed the past 35 years of retirement by seeing the rest of the world, relaxing in the sunshine with a drink, and enjoying the company of family and friends. At any family gathering he always played with the little ones, shared stories with the bigger ones, and invited everyone to come have a beer with him. If there was music, he'd be dancing. He taught us all how to live life to the fullest, to seize each day, and to stay young at heart.
Bud is survived by his grandson Todd (Melissa), his great-grandsons Dillon and Aidan, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy "Mahoney" Zochalski, his daughter Phyllis, his parents John Laycock and Alice Steininger, his sister Dorothy (Harry) Marcellis, sister Virginia (Dave) Reese, and brother John "Jack" (Olga).
