Joan Margaret Wallace Roth, 100, of Chicago, was taken up to heaven on November 23, 2023.
Mrs. Roth was born in Cottage Grove, WI. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in nursing before joining the Army Nursing Corps and attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant during World War II. While serving in Texas, she met her beloved husband, Philip J. Roth, Jr. The couple were married after the war and settled in Chicago. During their 69 years of marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Roth provided their seven children with a daily example of what it means to love and what it means to be a family.
Mrs. Roth was a talented musician, offering her talents as an organist for Sunday masses. She was a skilled seamstress, making clothes for her husband and children, and an accomplished chef and baker, creating fond memories of favorite foods for her family.
Mrs. Roth is predeceased by her loving husband, Philip Jr., their son, William (Ann), and her granddaughter Beth Ann Lyons. She is survived by their remaining children, Margaret (Robert) Lyons, Philip III (Billie), Marilyn (Donald) Kloth, Karen (Stephen) Starke, Michael (Ann), and Laurie (Mark) Sabas. She is also survived by her dear sister, Mary (Harold) Stitgen. Mr. and Mrs. Roth were the treasured grandparents of 18 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Roth is also predeceased by her parents, Robert and Genevieve Wallace, her brother, Hugh Wallace and his wife, Jeanne, her sister, Jean (Robert) Miller, and brother, Dean (Monica) Wallace.
Lying in State, Wednesday, December 6, at St. Robert Bellarmine Church 4646 N. Austin Ave., Chicago from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Maryhill Cemetery.
