Obituary

Leo P. Kurcz, 96, of Chicago, IL, died Sat., Aug. 23, 2014; son of the late Charles & Julia (Skibinski) Kurcz. Leo was born April 18, 1918 in Niagra, WI, raised in Iron Mt., Michigan and graduated from Iron Mt. High School. Beloved father of Tammy, Patricia (Andrew) Pusateri, Barry (Pam); loving grandfather of Andrew Jr., Samantha, Peter, Benjamin, Addison, Emerson, Charles. Proud great grandfather of Madisen, Camden & Cassidy. Cherished brother of Barry (Helen); preceded in death by siblings, Mary, Joseph, Leonora, Helen Getz, Clare Bruun, and D. John Barry.

Leo served in the U.S. Navy during WWII stationed in Guam. He was a true patriot who honored the military core values throughout his life. He also had a successful career in the HVAC industry, retiring at age 75 & held an active position on the Board of Directors for R.S.E.S. many years past retirement. He was a member of pipefitters Union Local 597 for over 50 years.

His children, nephews, grandchildren & great-grandchildren cherish his life stories recollecting a distant past, place of origin and way of life; including picking berries, building homes with his father, loading horse drawn wagons, skiing the Olympic size ski jump, recreational flying, ballroom dancing, ice skating and repairing WWII bomber planes. Leo led by example and believed no obstacle can stand in the way of a worthy goal given undivided attention.

Leo's legacy is his unfailing dedication to his faith, the blessed mother, and the rosary. Leo attended the seminary as a young man and was active in his parish at Immaculate Conception, serving others well into his 90's and enjoying every opportunity to share God's love.

Visitation Wednesday, August 27 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home, 4800 N. Austin Ave, Chicago. Public gathering Thursday 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home with a procession to Immaculate Conception Church, 7211 N. Talcott, Chicago, for Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery. For more info 773.736.2300.
