Obituary

It is with a sad and heavy heart that we announce the death of Lois Saller Latz Galen. Lois who was 88 this past April 4th, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday morning, September 7, 2016 at the Lee Manor Nursing Home in Des Plaines, Illinois.

Lois was born to Martin Herman and Anna Marie (Strobel) Saller on April 4, 1928 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Lois spent her first eight years growing up in Crete, Illinois, then the family moved to Chicago. She attended LeMoyne Elementary school and was a graduate of Lakeview High School in Chicago. She was married to August (Jim) Latz on April 13, 1947 through May, 1975. She was married to Leonard Galen on June 23rd, 1987 until his death in March of 2004. Lois was a stay at home wife and mother until 1967 when she started working at Montgomery Ward, retiring after almost 30 years of service.

Lois was the loving mother of 9 children, the late Jim (Donna) Latz, Bobbie (Frank) Puleo, Dave (Helen) Latz, Steve Latz, Greg (Karen) Latz, Mark (Irene Nault) Latz, Jeff Latz, Scott (Sofia) Latz, and Nancy (the late Don Magnuson) (John Drennan) Latz. She was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren, Tony (Vicky) Puleo, Cynthia Puleo, Jen (Caleb) Taylor, Michael (Crystal) Latz, Christi (Nate) Crawford, Jamie Skolnik, Dan Latz, Matt Latz, and Samantha Latz. Lois was honored to be the great-grandmother of 6, Christopher (Gina) Puleo, Nicholas (Kristina) Puleo, Anthony Puleo, Katie Puleo, Jaxon Taylor, and Jase Taylor and was surprised she lived to have 2 great-great-grandchildren, Jerico Puleo and Vivian Puleo. Lois once said "who could ask for a better legacy". Then she was reminded of all her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews and said in wonder, "I guess the Saller/Strobel gene will continue on forever".

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Bob Dover and her brother Edward Saller.
