Obituary

Mildred V. Zarko, "Mimi", passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008 in Park Ridge, IL. Mildred was born August 23, 1925, to George and Anna, nee Foltin, Zarko in Chicago, IL. Mildred attended Chicago Russian School, Steinmetz and Wilbur Wright College. As a teenager, Mildred worked in her family's business, a butcher shop and grocery store, and later was a long time employee of Pioneer Generator. Mimi cared for her widowed mother throughout life. Mildred was an avid reader, solid White Sox fan, and multi-linguistic, speaking many Eastern European languages. She loved animals and delighted in her pets. Mildred is survived by her brother-in-law, Robert B. Smuda, Kenosha, WI; cousin Mildred Pecen, Chicago, IL; nephew and niece Robert J. Smuda, Kenosha, WI and Georgianne Cox (Wilbur), Verona, WI. Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved sister Lillian A. Smuda and many dear aunts and uncles. For the past 5 years, Mildred lived at St. Matthews Center for Health in Park Ridge after leaving her home on Austin Ave. in Chicago, IL. The family wishes to thank the staff at Rainbow Arc Hospice for taking such good care of Mimi. She was loved and she will be missed. Memorial Visitation Friday, July 11, 2008, 11 a.m. until time of service, 11:30 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home, 4800 N. Austin Ave. (at Lawrence Ave.) Chicago. Inurnment Bohemian National Cemetery.
